Easy Fixes to Common Household Problems

Even still, as you live in a home, natural wear and tear are bound to occur. Certain household problems tend to pop up more commonly than others. But you may be pleasantly surprised at how easy it can be to fix these problems. Here are just a few examples of common issues with simple solutions.

Squeaky Floorboards

Squeaky floorboards are used often in cinema to alert the audience to something or to elicit an emotional response. But when it comes to squeaky floorboards in your home, the only emotional response they may cause is annoyance or irritation. Thankfully, squeaky floorboards can be pretty easily rectified with one simple ingredient: baby powder. Squeaking or creaking floorboards are often caused when two boards rub against each other. Sprinkling baby powder in between the troubled seam will block that friction from occurring and thus silencing the boards.

Slow Draining Sinks

When they do their job, you may live day by day and not even give a second thought to your drains. But once they start becoming clogged and not working as efficiently, drains can start to become a nuisance. You can clear up your drain system by using household items that most people already have on hand. All you need is baking soda and vinegar. Pour one half cup of baking soda down the drain and follow that with a half a cup of vinegar. You will be able to visually see the mixture foaming, bubbling, and at work. After a few minutes, flush with water.

Beaten Up Baseboards

A home is meant to be lived in. And while you strive to keep your things nice, life just happens. Especially if you have pets and children. And so as the years go by, you may notice that your baseboards have begun to appear a bit battered. Not to worry! Battered baseboards are nothing that a bit of wood putty and paint can’t handle. Simply fill the damaged portions of your baseboards with wood putty, sand once dried, and paint over. Good as new!
